Designed 1931, this example executed 1992. Dark stained solid birch, upholstered in braided white saddle cloth. Branded 'BRUNO MATHSSON COLLECTIONE MEMORIA CULTURA 24/100'. Second example available, ref. 2603037. History: 'The Grasshopper' was Bruno Mathsson's first functionalist experiment and was designed for Värnamo lasarett's waiting room. In his search for a comfortable seating shape, Bruno Mathsson came up with this chair after he dropped into a snowdrift and studied the resulting seating curve. The chair was put back into production in 1992 and was then made in 100 copies.
